My Review

Tessa Bailey really knows how to deliver a fun, feel-good romance, and Pitcher Perfect might be one of my favorites yet. This book is exactly what I want in a sports rom-com: flirty banter, fake dating chaos, and a golden retriever hero who is just hopelessly in love.

Robbie Corrigan is an NHL rookie living his best life charming, cocky, and used to getting his way especially with women. Enter Skylar Paige, a D1 softball pitcher who doesn’t buy his act for a second. She’s focused, disciplined, and completely immune to his charms… or so she thinks. When Skylar needs a fake boyfriend to help her catch the attention of her long-time crush, Robbie volunteers hoping to redeem himself after a disastrous first impression.

I absolutely loved the setup! A wilderness family competition? Genius. It gave us forced proximity, one-bed vibes, and plenty of opportunities for Robbie and Skylar to grow closer.

Robbie was hilarious, flirty, and maybe a little bit chaotic but he also showed up for Skylar in all the ways she never knew she needed. Skylar, on the other hand, had a ton of depth. The family pressure she faced and her “outsider in her own family” feelings made her easy to root for.

And yes this is Tessa Bailey, so the spice is very SPICY. But what surprised me most was how good of a character Robbie turned out to be. I was very nervous after the way his character showed up in past books! But he was respectful, loyal, and honestly kind of adorable underneath all the flirting. By the end, I was fully sold on him being the perfect match for Skylar!

I did find myself wishing for more resolution in Skylar’s relationship with her mom. Her dad and brother both had these really satisfying revelation/redemption arcs, but her mom felt more like she was just along for the ride. A deeper, more vulnerable conversation between Skylar and her mother would have added another layer of emotional payoff to the family storyline.

And if you loved Robbie and Skylar? Great news book 5 in the Big Shots series Catch Her If You Can, has already been announced! It releases January 20th and will follow Yankees catcher Madden Donahue and burlesque club owner Eve Mitchell in what promises to be another sizzling fake marriage romance!

Pitcher Perfect is everything you’d want in a Tessa Bailey sports rom-com! Flirty, fun, and just the right mix of heartfelt character growth and spicy tension. Robbie and Skylar’s chemistry shines from the very first banter-filled page, and their journey from reluctant allies to something much deeper is equal parts hilarious and swoony.

If you love fake dating, opposites attract, and golden retriever heroes who fall first, this one is an absolute must-read. It’s the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud moments, found-family warmth, and romance that will have you grinning (and maybe blushing) all the way through.
