(Love Along the Way, Book 3)

Eight summers. Two broken hearts. One shocking truth.

If you’ve ever experienced a book that breaks you a little, puts you back together again, and leaves you hugging it (or your kindle) to your chest long after the final page… On the Ferry to Skye is that book!

This emotional, slow-burn second chance romance is the third installment in the Love Along the Way series, and in my opinion? It just might be the best one yet!

Summary (Spoiler Free)

We first met Jamie Murray as a supporting character in On the Slopes of Tahoe, and I immediately hoped he’d get a book of his own. I wasn’t ready for how much this story would wreck me in the best possible way.

Avonlea Stewart and Jamie Murray were childhood best friends. Avonlea gave her heart to Jamie after years of friendship, only to have him shatter it just as quickly.

More than a decade later, life brings them both back to the Isle of Skye: Jamie, called home by a family crisis, and Avonlea, drawn by the opportunity of a lifetime. But returning means facing what they left unresolved especially when that secret is no longer something she can hide.

Now under the same roof, old feelings resurface, truths demand to be told, and the question becomes: Can love, once lost, truly be found again?

My Review

As someone raised by a single teen mom, this story hit home in ways I wasn’t expecting. Avonlea’s strength, the impossible choices she had to make as a young woman, and the grief that lingered in the background of her success felt real and raw. This isn’t just a love story. It’s a story about motherhood, resilience, and family.

Jamie Murray. Full Stop.

I loved him in Tahoe, but this book let him shine in all his broody, emotionally complex glory. Jamie is the kind of romantic lead I’ll be thinking about for a long time deeply flawed, fiercely protective, quietly hurting. Watching him come face-to-face with his past and slowly open his heart again was everything. He’s the reason I kept turning pages late into the night. I know everyone says that about every book now but I truly could not put it down!

The Octogenarian Scene-Stealers

Let’s hear it for Jamie’s gran and grandad! These two absolutely stole my heart. I am a sucker for strong older characters who are more than just the comic relief and these two delivered wisdom, warmth, and heart in spades. I am not joking when I say: I want a prequel novella about their love story. Someone please make this happen!

A Story About Second Chances and The Courage To Take Them

On the Ferry to Skye is so much more than your typical surface level romance. It’s about the kind of love that weathers storms and decades. It’s about learning to forgive ourselves, opening our hearts to the truth, and having the courage to fight for what matters.

The setting the rugged beauty of the Isle of Skye adds a sense of timeless magic to every interaction, and the writing? It’s lush, intimate, and emotionally charged without ever being overly sentimental.

This book gave me all the feels and reminded me why I fell in love with the Love Along the Way series in the first place. Excuse me while I go start over from book one!
