An emotional, slow-burn small-town romance full of suspense, healing, and swoon-worthy moments!
Summary (spolier free)
"I came here seeking sanctuary. I never meant to fall for the broody single dad next door…"
Ellie is running from a past that nearly broke her. In a quiet town like Sparrow Falls, she hopes to find peace, healing, and a place to start over. But nothing prepares her for Trace Colson her new next-door neighbor, a local sheriff, a single dad… and her brother’s best friend.
Trace has his own demons, a protective streak a mile wide, and a heart he guards closely. But when Ellie’s past starts creeping back into her present, it’s Trace who steps between her and the danger. And in that space, something powerful begins to bloom trust, safety, and a slow-burning love that neither of them expected!

My Review
5 stars | slow-burn | small-town romance
If like me you’ve been following the Sparrow Falls series, you already know Catherine Cowles is a master of weaving together romance, suspense, and found family. But Chasing Shelter might just be my favorite so far!
What I Loved:
- Ellie’s Journey: Watching Ellie break free from her abusive past and reclaim her sense of self was powerful and emotional. Her growth felt so real and raw, and I was rooting for her from page one!
- Trace, aka Book Boyfriend Goals: A protective small-town sheriff? Check. Fierce love for his daughter? Check. Deep respect for Ellie’s healing process? Check!
- That Tension: The slow burn here is chef’s kiss. Every stolen glance, every interrupted moment it built the kind of anticipation that makes your heart race!
- Found Family Vibes: The Colsons are the kind of fictional family I’d happily join. Their loud, love-filled joking bater, their chaos, their support it's always so comforting and joyful!
- Keely (Trace’s daughter): She added a light, heartwarming layer to the story. Her connection with Ellie felt natural and incredibly healing for both of them!
- Suspense Elements: Cowles knows how to raise the stakes and drop a twist. Just when I thought I could breathe, BAM something would come out of left field.
- Lollie: the grandma who is pure sassy chaos and we are here for it!
This book gave me every emotion laughter, tears, butterflies and by the end, I didn’t want to leave Sparrow Falls.
